Dock diving (also referred to as dock jumping) is an increasingly popular sport in which dogs jump from a regulation height deck/dock to jump for distance (called “Big Air”) or height (vertical jumps) into a pool. Attending a dock diving competition, or better yet, entering the family dog into a competition, is a great opportunity for families to spend time with their dogs. Most competitions allow all breeds and sizes to participate. K9 Water World will be hosting competitions beginning in the late spring/early summer of 2014 that will include dock diving and also racing competitions! Be sure to check our website regularly for announcements – or, better yet, you can fill out the form at the bottom of the page to be notified of events via email. Questions? Call Andra Moore, owner of both Pets and Moore boarding and grooming and K9 Water World at 512-754-7387.
Getting your dog to jump off of a “dock” takes some training and practice (see 2nd video below for tips). At K9 Water World, you can reserve our pool for private practice sessions as often as you like for a very reasonable fee. Call us to make your reservation to swim with and train your dog to be part of this great sport! The pool is open year round, but of course we don’t recommend swimming when it’s very cold outside.
As mentioned above, competitions are of two types: one measures distance and the other measures height. The video below shows a competition with both types and will give you a good idea of what docking diving is all about!
The video below is a seminar showing some very useful information on how to get started training your dog.
Use the form below to sign up to be notified of dock diving events and other competitions. We promise we will not share your email address with anyone!
